Abstract

The current study aimed to analyze the immoral content present in a sample of the most-watched original movies on Netflix, available in its Saudi library. It also focused on examining the methods and contexts used by Netflix to display unethical content. The sample included five original Netflix films: The Paramedic, The Old Guard, The Beast, Rogue City, and Alive. This qualitative study employed content analysis to identify unethical visual content in these films. The study reached several conclusions, most notably that the most frequent type of immoral content was sexual in nature, followed by immoral behaviors related to health, such as the consumption of cigarettes, tobacco, alcohol, and drugs. The study recommends developing awareness programs and providing specialists with these findings to understand their effects and suggest effective interventions. Furthermore, it calls for conducting interdisciplinary studies to explore the impact of Netflix productions on young viewers, limiting the promotion and advertising of Netflix services, supporting national artistic productions, and empowering national and Arab digital production platforms.
