The Impact of Digital Media on Students in the Humanities Disciplines: A field study on a sample of students from the Faculty of Arts and Humanities at King Abdulaziz University

Abstract

This study aimed to identify the impact of digital media on students studying humanities, The study applied a survey methodology using a survey of a few students from the Faculty of Arts and Humanities at King Abdulaziz University, and it fell under the category of descriptive studies. One of the study’s key results was that 58.0% of students preferred to utilize search engines because they were easy to use and offered a wide variety of information. The survey also found that students’ searches in specialized programs and scientific databases indicated their interest in trustworthy knowledge. Furthermore, the study revealed that only 7.4% of students utilized social media to obtain academic knowledge, suggesting that most students preferred sources with more credibility. According to the study, 93.3% of students believed that digital media has helped to improve the quality of scientific research and facilitate it.  Additionally, the result showed that 25.9% of students reported having low technical abilities and 55.6% of students reported difficulties accessing digital media such as trouble differentiating between reliable and unreliable material.
