Abstract

Prophethood is a common issue among religions of the People of the Book. It is related to the evidence that proves the truthfulness of Prophet Muhammad. Claiming prophethood cannot be ambiguous for those who have knowledge of its truthfulness, despite clarity of the prophethood issue, those who claim prophethood are found in The Scripture, especially The Old Testament. There was confusion between true and false prophet! What is prophethood claimant concept in the Scripture? What are signs of a true or false prophet? To distinguish between them, and how can the prophethood claimant be refuted by reason and revelation? Therefore, this research paper is made to answer these questions, focusing on studying the claimants of prophethood in the Scripture according to an inductive, analytical, and critical approach based on The Old and New Testaments. The study concluded that significant prophethood claimants were in the Old Testament compared to the New Testament, and the difficulty of identifying prophethood claimant concept in the Old Testament is attributed to reasons such as the prophethood was related to divination and kingship, to the point that it became a profession.
