Abstract

This study aims to highlight the theory of conversational implicature and its applications in Saudi political speech through a pragmatic study  to analyze the structure of Saudi political speech. As the speech is composed of a group of mutually supportive linguistic and stylistic units to represent the speaker’s intentions, and the politics determines the type of the speech. this study adopted two political speeches of King Salman bin Abdulaziz - May God protect him - to demonstrate the characteristics of contemporary Saudi political speech, and to determine the social relations between the two sides of the speech. Thus, the features of Saudi policy become clear, which show the relationship between the ruler and the ruled at the levels of rights and duties, and the effective influence it enjoys and its intense privacy. In order to achieve this, the study uses the descriptive approach based on induction, deduction, and pragmatic analysis in order to analyze linguistic meanings in the context of Usage, in addition Procedurally analyzing the meaning according to the pragmatic language system, which is based on attention to the mutual relations between the speaker and the recipient, and clarifying the speaker’s intentions and how the listener receives them and the effects  of the speech. The study concluded many results, the most important of which is that the conversational implicature theory interested in the meaning which is required by dialogue or the speech according to the status of the speech or its context. Applying the standards of conversational connotation in Saudi political speech contributed to extending bridges of communication process between the sender and the receiver and achieving integration between the intention of the rigid literal meaning and the indirect meaning to achieve the principle of cooperation between the two sides of the speech (speaker and listener).
