Abstract
Time always manifests itself in specific moments, casting it to the forefront of the creator’s attention. Time undoubtedly stretches across a person’s life—past, present, and future. However, tomorrow, as a companion to hopes and aspirations, is a pivotal moment between the emotions of today and yesterday, and the anticipation of the uncertain tomorrow. In this context, the poet's self faces its interaction with time. Given the importance of time, this study explores the relationship between the sensitive self of the romantic poet Ibrahim Nagy and the future.
The introduction presents the concept of the self, both linguistically and in terms of its definition, and its relationship to time. The first section provides a historical overview of the poet Ibrahim Nagy’s life and his romantic poetic style. The second section addresses the concept of 'tomorrow' in the poet's self-reflection, focusing on the restless time of separation from the lover, and the sorrowful time of parting with a friend. The third section discusses how time forms a continuity, especially emphasizing the enduring nature of love as a key feature in expressing the self, with the aim of affirming passion. Tomorrow can also represent a return to the past, a return to solitude. It can also carry a kind of despair that pains and burdens the self.
The results highlight the centrality of time in Ibrahim Nagy’s poetry. Time is closely linked to the outpourings of his poetic self, which expresses the torrents of his heart. He uses time to describe his emotions, employing a delicate lexicon that reflects his inner thoughts.
