Abstract

Abstract: This study focuses on narrative structure as a key component and foundational element of narrative discourse, and as a method for presenting the narrative to the audience. It aims to explore narrative structures, their connotations, and role illuminating the opening of the storytelling session in two models of folk tales directed at children and adolescents: One Thousand and One Nights, and Folk Legends by Abd al-Karim al-Juhayman. This analysis seeks to highlight the contrast between the two in their use of narrative structures, and to demonstrate their influence on the target audience, by examining the function of narrative structures and their shifts within these storytelling sessions from a comparative narrative perspective.

The study is divided into two sections: the first addresses the theoretical framework and defining key concepts. The second delves into the practical aspect, and uncovering the communicative, persuasive, and influential implications of the storytelling session opening in both texts. One of the key findings of the study is that the shifts in narrative structures, along with the contrast between the two models, played a crucial role in structuring the storytelling session, organizing the discourse, and ensuring coherence among its elements. These factors contributed effectiveness of the narrative's impact on the child and adolescent audience.
