The Role of Saudi Border Universities in Preventing Drug Abuse Through Administration, Academics, and Security From the Perspective of Faculty Members at the University of Najran and the University of Northern Borders

Abstract
This descriptive study was intended to identify the role of Saudi border universities in preventing drug abuse by determining how they apply administrative, academic, and security roles from the perspectives of faculty members at Najran University and Northern Border University. In line with this type of study, the researcher relied on the social survey method. Faculty members at Najran University and Northern Border University were designated as the study community. The study sample was determined as a sample of 360 faculty members, distributed as follows: 195 members from Najran University and 165 members from Northern Border University. To collect data, the researcher used a questionnaire consisting of 49 statements, distributed over three areas: administrative role, academic role, and security role (for universities). Then, the researcher analyzed the data by calculating arithmetic averages and standard deviations. The study results showed that the role of Saudi border universities in reducing the dangers of drugs at Najran and Northern Border Universities was at a high level in the three areas. Universities’ security role came in first place with an arithmetic average of 2.61 out of 3, academic role took second place with an arithmetic average of 2.58, and administrative role came in third and last place with an arithmetic average of 2.53. The study present recommendations for universities, most notably issuing periodic awareness publications about drugs and their harms, as well as organizing educational lectures and training workshops that inform students about the dangers of addiction. The study also recommend that universities support scientific research that diagnoses the causes of addiction and develop strategies for its prevention. Finally, the study recommends universities focus on communicating with their graduate students and training them to obtain jobs and solve their unemployment problem.
