Abstract
The research deals with the role of Al-Falah School in the educational and cultural renaissance in Jeddah through Ibrahim Al-Hassoun’s book “Thoughts and Memories”, with details of educational life, the school day, the school’s educational and administrative staff, and its cultural contributions to the city of Jeddah. The importance of this study lies in the fact that it sheds light on the cultural shift that Al-Falah School in Jeddah established, by tracing the role and history of this school through a profound historical perspective of an eyewitness and one of the school’s first students, Professor Ibrahim bin Muhammad Al-Hassoun, who witnessed a decisive era in the nation’s history, namely the era of the Hejaz region’s entry under the rule of King Abdulaziz 1343-1344 AH / 1924-1925 AD.
The study relied on the descriptive historical approach, and the research was divided into an introduction, three chapters, and a conclusion. One of the most important results of the research is the emphasis on the value of Al-Hassoun’s memoirs, as they are a valuable historical document that tells profound aspects of the history of the Kingdom in its first decades, worthy of study and documentation. The Al-Falah School is considered one of the first regular schools, not only in Jeddah, but also in the Arabian Peninsula. It is not just a school, but rather a cultural landmark and historical legacy that tells a part of Jeddah’s cultural history a hundred years ago.
